CompTIA Security+ Certification Training

Course Outline

*** IMPORTANT: High Volume Class, Sign Up Early ***
Security+ is one of our most popular classes. A green flag beside a class date means that session has met minimum enrollment levels and is expected to run. It is common for Security+ class dates to fill several weeks in advance. Even if a date has a green flag, you might not be able to get into that session if it is full. To avoid disappointment, it is best to register for the Security+ certification course at least several weeks in advance.

Overview
CompTIA Security+ is aimed at IT professionals with job roles such as security architect, security engineer, security consultant/specialist, information assurance technician, security administrator, systems administrator, and network administrator. This course is the prep for Security+ certification exam SY0-601.

Exam prep software is included with all CompTIA classes delivered by ONLC Training Centers.

ONLC’s Exam Pass Guarantee
ONLC’s CompTIA certification classes come with an Exam Pass Guarantee. What that essentially means is that we want to make sure that everyone is taking advantage of the Practice Exam that we are providing and achieve an 85% or better in Certification Mode prior to us releasing the initial exam voucher. Security+ Certification

Security+ Certification Learning Path

IT security is paramount to organizations. With the massive amounts of data transmitted and stored throughout the world, it's essential to have effective cybersecurity practices in place.

CompTIA Security+ certification validates baseline skills needed to perform core security functions and pursue an IT security career. Some of the job roles that may prefer or require this CompTIA Security+ certification include:

  • Systems Administrator
  • Network Administrator
  • Security Administrator
  • Junior IT Auditor/Penetration Tester
  • Security Engineer

To achieve Security+ certification candidates must pass the authorized exam. You can prepare for the exam by attending the training listed below.

Recommended Prerequisite

CompTIA recommends that Security+ candidates have at least two years of technical networking experience with an emphasis on security such as in CompTIA Network+ .

Security+ Certification Exam

SY0-601

One exam with a combination of 90 multiple choice and performance-based questions. Exam length is 90 minutes. Passing Score is 750 (scale of 100-900).

CompTIA certification exams are performance-based to confirm a candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities using the program. CompTIA exams are available through Pearson Vue, CompTIA's authorized testing partner. Exam candidates schedule the authorized exam directly with Pearson Vue and may attend from any of Pearson Vue's Testing Centers or online.

Recertification/CompTIA CE Program

Security+ has globally-recognized ISO/ANSI accreditation status. As part of the accreditation requirements, this certification expires every three years if not renewed. You can renew certification through the CompTIA CE Program which includes completing continuing education activities. Review CompTIA Continuing Education (CE) Program requirements and approved courses . Note, if your certification is not renewed within the three years allowance it will expire and you will need to pass the current version of the exam to regain certification.

Next Step after the Security+ Course and Exam

Once you've earned Security+ Certification, expand your abilities in the field of IT Security with CompTIA CySA+ Certification for defensive skills or CompTIA PenTest+ for offensive skills. Although the two certifications teach skills from opposing sides, they are dependent on one another and the most qualified cybersecurity professionals will have both offensive and defensive skills. These intermediate-level certifications help bridge the skills gap between CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) to create a vendor-neutral certification path.
