PMI’s Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) is a valuable entry-level certification for project practitioners. Designed for those with little or no project management or change management experience, the CAPM demonstrates your understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project management.
To be eligible for CAPM certification the following educational requirements must first be met:
You will need to submit an application, appropriate audit materials and pass the CAPM examination within a set timeframe. See PMI's CAPM handbook for full qualifications and options. Once CAPM is achieved one must earn 15 PDUs per three-year cycle to maintain CAPM certification.

PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential is a globally-recognized industry standard certification for professional-level project managers. PMP certification demonstrates that you have the experience, education and competency to lead and direct projects.
To be eligible for the PMP certification, you must meet certain educational and professional experience requirements. All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission, and you need to have either:
A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or global equivalent) along with a minimum five years/60 months unique non-overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 7,500 hours were spent leading and directing the project* plus 35 contact hours of formal project management education or CAPM certification.

*Leading and directing the project as identified with the tasks, knowledge, and skills specific in the Project Management Professional Examination Content Outline.
NOTE: The A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) defines a project as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service or result (PMBOK® Guide—Fifth Edition, p. 553).
