Earning a Microsoft Office Specialist ( MOS / MOS Expert ) Certification demonstrates that you have the skills needed to get the most out of Microsoft Office software. For working professionals, having a Microsoft Office Specialist certification could mean more in annual salary than uncertified peers. Some higher-level education institutions require students and faculty to have an Office certification.
MOS certifications are typically product AND version specific. For example, there is a credential for MOS Excel 365 / 2019 versus version 2016 and so on.
MOS Expert is a higher-level credential and available for some Office products, but not all. MOS is not a required prerequisite for MOS Expert certification, but it is in many cases a good first step. Microsoft retired the MOS SharePoint 2013 exam in June 2020 and the MOS OneNote 2013 in June 2023.
MOS exams are administered by Certiport, Microsoft's authorized testing provider. Certiport has testing sites, however, due to the pandemic locations may not be available. ONLC is Certiport-approved to provide a test from home option. This option is only available for current ONLC students. Our students can complete the MOS Exam at Home request form to schedule their home exam (other restrictions and requirements may apply).
ONLC students who prefer a testing location and non-ONLC students should use Certiport's list of testing locations to schedule an exam.
