Overview

Microsoft Power Apps empowers users to create custom applications that streamline workflows and enhance data management—without the need for extensive coding. This course provides a hands-on introduction to building both canvas and model-driven apps, leveraging Microsoft Dataverse, and integrating with Microsoft 365 tools like Teams and SharePoint. Participants will explore app design, functionality, and automation, gaining the skills to develop solutions that improve efficiency and responsiveness.

By learning to create tailored applications, participants will be able to transform existing business processes into intuitive digital solutions. Whether building a simple form-based app or a more complex data-driven application, this course provides the foundation to turn ideas into fully functional tools that drive productivity and innovation.

This course is designed for individuals looking to create custom business applications using Microsoft Power Apps, including business users, analysts, and IT professionals. Whether new to app development or seeking to enhance existing skills, participants will gain practical experience in building and managing applications that improve workflows and data efficiency.

Prerequisites

Familiarity with OneDrive, SharePoint, and Excel.

Course Schedule

NOTE: This course combines the content of two Microsoft classes:
PL-7001 – Create and manage canvas apps with Power Apps
PL-7003 – Create and manage model-driven apps with Power Apps and Dataverse

Course Outline

Day One: Introduction to Canvas Apps

Module 1: Get started with Power Apps canvas apps

  • Explore how Power Apps can make your business more efficient
  • Use different technologies to perform different tasks in Power Apps
  • Build a canvas app in Power Apps in different ways
  • Create your first canvas app from data in an Excel workbook

Module 2: Get started with Microsoft Dataverse

  • Create tables with Dataverse
  • Add columns to Dataverse tables
  • Create relationships between tables with lookups

Module 3: Customize a canvas app in Power Apps

  • Add screens to a canvas app and navigate between screens
  • Change the data displayed by controls
  • Modify controls including galleries and forms
  • Use basic formulas

Module 4: How to build the UI in a canvas app in Power Apps

  • Build the UI through themes, icons, control customization, and images
  • Use personalization in a canvas
  • Use preview and modify an app to fit different form factors

Module 5: Work with external data in a Power Apps canvas app

  • Understand data sources for canvas apps in Power Apps
  • Use the Collect function
  • Use the Patch function

Module 6: Write data in a Power Apps canvas app

  • Work with forms in canvas apps
  • Configure a submit button to write data
  • Use and understand the different form modes

Module 7: Publish, share, and maintain a canvas app

  • Learn how to manage versions and publish your app
  • Learn how to share your app
  • Manage the lifecycle of your app

Day Two: Introduction to Dataverse and Model-driven apps

Module 1: Create tables in Dataverse

  • Understand a data model
  • Understand the benefits of Microsoft Dataverse
  • Create tables with Dataverse
  • Add columns to Dataverse tables
  • Create relationships between tables

Module 2: Get started with model-driven apps in Power Apps

  • Describe model-driven app components and design
  • Create a model-driven app

Module 3: Configure forms, charts, and dashboards in model-driven apps

  • Configure forms
  • Configure views
  • Configure visualizations

Module 4: Manage solutions in Power Apps and Power Automate

  • Describe managed and unmanaged solutions
  • Export and import solutions
