To achieve MOS Access Expert certification for versions 2019 or 365 you must pass the authorized exam. Microsoft recommends that you have hands-on experience with the application and that you use training resources before attempting the exam. Below is the MOS Access learning path. Prep for MOS certification with our live, hands-on courses led by expert trainers.
MOS exams are performance-based and include multiple projects to gauge skills. Microsoft changes exam elements frequently to maintain integrity. As such, training alone may not cover all exam topics. It is recommended candidates review the exam guide before attempting the authorized exam.
MOS authorized exams are through Certiport. Certiport has approved ONLC to provide a test from home option for current ONLC students only. ONLC students should complete the Home Exam request form
to schedule their at home authorized exam (other restrictions and requirements may apply). Those who prefer a testing site and non-ONLC students should use Certiport's list of testing locations
to schedule an exam.
When you pass the authorized MOS exam you will receive a digital badge for that credential. Anyone who views your badge can select it to learn about your skills and verify its authenticity.
To achieve MOS certification you must pass the designated exam. Microsoft recommends that you have hands-on experience with the product and that you use training resources.
VERSION NOTE: Our live, instructor-led courses are appropriate for candidates using Microsoft Access versions 365, 2019 or 2016. There are very few differences between those versions from a user perspective. ONLC's classes are taught using Access 2019 software. ONLC's expert instructors have used all versions and will be able to quickly highlight any changes in the user interface.
77-730: Microsoft Access 2016
For this exam you need to be able to create and maintain a basic Access database, create, modify, and extend functionality of basic database objects, including tables, queries, forms, and reports. You should also be able to construct and modify basic relationships among database entities and be able to instruct others in basic Access functionality and usage. The following courses can help you get started, though may not cover all exam topics. It is recommended that you review the exam guide and practice the skills listed before attempting the authorized exam.

Microsoft Access has a learning curve, but it's manageable for most users. With structured training and practice, beginners can grasp the basics within a few weeks. The difficulty level depends on your prior database experience and familiarity with other Microsoft Office products. Our training classes are designed to make learning Access accessible and straightforward for all skill levels.
The time required to learn Microsoft Access varies depending on your goals and prior experience. Basic proficiency can typically be achieved in 20-30 hours of focused study and practice. Mastering advanced features may take several months. Our training courses are structured to provide a solid foundation in just a few sessions, with options for more in-depth learning.
Though there are several formats available, one of the most thorough and common ways to learn Microsoft Access is by attending instructor-led training. In this format a professional already familiar with the software and possibly how it interacts with other programs within the Microsoft Office suiste, will work with you directly so you can gain knowledge and know-how using the product. As you become more comfortable with hands-on practice and use, its easy to then progress to more advanced topics like automation techniques using macros and VBA.
While knowledge of Excel can be helpful, it's not a prerequisite for learning Microsoft Access. The two programs serve different purposes - Excel is a spreadsheet tool, while Access is a relational database management system. However, understanding Excel may give you a head start in grasping some concepts in Access, especially if you're familiar with functions and data organization.
Access and Excel are designed for different tasks, so one isn't necessarily "better" than the other. Excel is ideal for spreadsheets, calculations, and simple data storage. Access is superior for managing large amounts of related data, creating complex queries, and building data-driven applications. For database management and relational data structures, Access is the more powerful tool.
Microsoft Access doesn't require coding for basic operations. Many tasks can be accomplished using the graphical interface and built-in wizards. However, learning some VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) can greatly enhance your ability to automate tasks and create more sophisticated database applications. Our training courses cover both code-free usage and introductory programming concepts.
Microsoft Access remains in demand as a vital database management tool, particularly in small to medium-sized businesses and enterprise departments. Organizations continue to rely on Access for custom business applications, data management solutions, and process automation. Its seamless integration with Microsoft 365 makes it especially valuable. The job market consistently seeks professionals skilled in Access database development, custom forms and reports, VBA solutions, and system maintenance. Learning Microsoft Access is a valuable investment for IT professionals, business analysts, and data management specialists looking to enhance their career opportunities.
Microsoft Access training is a structured learning program designed to teach users how to effectively use the Access database management system. It typically covers database creation, table design, query building, form and report generation, and data analysis techniques. Our training classes offer hands-on experience, expert instruction, and practical exercises to help you become proficient in using Access for your specific needs.
Microsoft Access Versions 365 / 2019 / 2016
These versions are very similar. The difference is mostly a matter of how you're accessing the software. Microsoft Access 365 is accessed via the cloud. You pay a monthly subscription to use the software. Since it's not static on your device, you'll get updates to the software when they happen. On the otherhand, 2019 / 2016 and earlier PC versions are purchased outright and installed directly onto your computer (aka "on-premise").
Microsoft Access features and functions are the same no matter which of these versions you're using and as such students with any of those versions can attend the same classes.
