Isaac Redman was born November 10, 1984 in Paulsboro, NJ and is the Pro Day 2018 Honoree.
A standout athlete at Paulsboro High School, Redman excelled at football. He was a three-year starter for the Paulsboro Red Raiders with each team going undefeated and winning the South Jersey Group 1 title all three years.
Redman set a South Jersey record for touchdowns during his senior year with 37. By the end of his high school career, he had scored a total of 93 touchdowns, rushed for more than 5,000 yards and earned Associated Press First-Team All-State honors.
Following high school graduation in 2003, Redman headed to Bowie State University (BSU), part of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). While at BSU, Redman continued to shine on the gridiron with multiple records and awards including:
Redman finished his collegiate career as Bowie State’s all-time rushing leader with 3,300 yards.
After going undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft, Redman was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers in April 2009. Redman worked his way to becoming the primary goal-line back in 2010 and wore jersey #33.
The 6 foot, 230 lb. back scored his first pro touchdown against the Oakland Raiders in November of that year. At the end of the 2010 season, Redman and the Steelers appeared in Super Bowl XLV against the Green Bay Packers. Redman had two rushes for 19 yards and one kickoff return for 13 yards in the 31–25 loss.
Redman forged a solid career with the Steelers. In five seasons he rushed for 1,148 yards and five touchdowns on 282 carries.
Unfortunately in August 2014, Redman had to retire from the NFL after suffering a career-ending injury to his spinal cord.
Though he's no longer an active player, Redman continues to be involved with football and with his hometown of Paulsboro, NJ. In 2013, he learned that the once powerhouse football town found itself without a youth football program. Answering the call, Redman started an annual football camp with all proceeds going to the Paulsboro Midget Football Association. He has expanded on that program and now is coaching the Paulsboro 7th and 8th grade football team.
When asked about coaching the kids, Redman replied, "It’s just surreal to be able to be down there at the same field where I grew up on, played on and to be an influence on these kids and their lives. To go up to their schools, check on their grades and just make sure they’re doing good, being a positive role model. I'm trying to teach these kids the fundamentals of football, but that education is the most important thing. I want to see them excel off the field, too.”
And football continues with his own children. Redman said, “My oldest plays on the 7- and 8-year-old team in Paulsboro. I unfortunately had to miss their championship game because of a coaching internship with the Arizona Cardinals, but I was on FaceTime for every practice and looking on Facebook Live for scrimmages. My heart is always in Paulsboro.”
Isaac is married to Chauntelle Redman and they reside in Deptford with their two sons, Haiden and Carter.
