Gregg Rakoczy is the honoree for Mt. Holly Pro Day 2008

Born May 18, 1965, Gregg grew up in Medford Lakes and played high school football at Shawnee.

University of MiamaA standout center, Gregg received a scholarship to the University of Miami (Florida) where he played first for coach Howard Schnellenberger and then coach Jimmy Johnson. His collegiate accolades include:

  • Univ. of Miami - Offensive Linemen of the year 1985 & 1986
  • 1986 - played in the East-West Shrine All Star game in Palo Alto, California.
  • 1986 - 2nd Team AP All American
  • Member of the 1983 National Championship team.
    The Miami Hurricanes beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers (featuring previous Pro Day honorees Mike Rozier & Irving Fryar) by a score of 31-30.
  • Member of the 1986 Miami team that played Penn State for the National Championship in the Fiesta Bowl in January 1987. Penn State won the game 14-10.

Cleveland BrownsGregg graduated from the University of Miami-Florida with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in December 1988.

In 1987 Gregg was selected in the 2nd round of the NFL draft (32nd overall) by the Cleveland Browns.

Gregg's NFL awards and achievements include...

  • 1987 NFL Rookie team
  • 1987 Started in the AFC Championship game vs. the Denver Broncos— the game known as the ‘the Fumble’
  • 1990 Cleveland Browns Unsung Hero winner selected by the Browns Backers of Cleveland

New England PatriotsGregg played for the Browns until 1990 then the New England Patriots until 1993.

Gregg lives in Florida and has worked for AT&T as a Lead Product Manager for on-line ordering of Managed Business Services since retiring from the NFL. He has been actively involved with youth sports in his area. He has been a board member and baseball manager when his sons were in Little League team and as a Pop Warner Head Football Coach for the New Tampa Sharks Mitey Mites.

More recently, Rakoczy was inducted into Shawnee High School's Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2018.

We salute Gregg for his continued involvement both on and off the field and are proud to have him as the Mt. Holly Pro Day 2008 Honoree.
