  Remote Classroom Instruction

Working on Class Labs

You'll have a computer dedicated for your hands-on labs. In your remote classroom, you will have a student computer for working on hands-on labs and exercises, in addition to the computer that shows you what the instructor is doing.

RCI connection with instructorLinked to the instructor's classroom. When we link the computer in your RCI classroom to a computer in the instructor's classroom, that lets the instructor see what you are doing. In addition, the software for your labs will actually be installed on a computer in the instructor's classroom, giving us a greater level of quality control. (If you've ever connected to your computer at work from your home using "remote desktop" software, that's essentially what we are doing.)

That displays all of your work in the instructor's classroom. Everything on the screen in front of you will also be displayed on your screen in the instructor's room. Instructors typically have all of the remote student's monitors facing them. This way they can see if you are following along with the rest of the class. In addition, if you are lost and need help, the instructor can easily take over your mouse and keyboard of the computer that you are linked to so you can get assistance.

So be careful what you put on your screen. Because the instructor is watching the RCI student monitors at all times, they are actually able to keep a closer eye on you than the students in the traditional classroom. For example, if someone in the back of the traditional classroom starts playing solitaire, the instructor might not know because he would only see their screen if he walked to the back of the room. However, if you start playing solitaire from a remote classroom, the instructor will be the first to know. (You've been warned!)

Student Follows Along with Instructor Demonstration
Watch a student follow an instructor's demonstration. With the separate monitor for the instructor, the student can easily see the instructor's demonstration. With the clear audio conferencing she can listen to the directions as well.
