Ron Gassert was one of the first inductees for Mt. Holly Pro Day 1998

Gassert attended Rancocas Valley Regional High School and played football for Coach Bill Gordon.  During his senior year at RV, Ron was named All County for football.

University of VirginiaHe graduated high school at the early age of 16, and with Coach Gordon's suggestion, attended Bordentown Military Institute.  While there he was named First Team All State Tackle and was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Virginia.

At Virginia, Ron earned a starting position as a sophomore.  He continued to distinguish his football talent during his years at UVa by being name co-captain his senior year, named 1st Team All Atlantic Coast Conference, UVa Athlete of the Year, and 2nd Team All American, "Lineman of the Year" by the Roanoke Touchdown Club.  Ron played in the U.S. Bowl All Star Game in 1962 and was named runner up for "Player of the Game."

Green Bay PackersRon was selected in the 4th round of the 1962 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.  He played for the legendary Vince Lombardi on the team that won the NFL Championship.  During that season Ron sustained a career hindering injury and was traded to the LA Rams.

In 1965, Ron received a call from Al Davis, owner of the AFL's Oakland Raiders asking him to play.  Ron signed a contract with Davis, but since the Buffalo Bills owned Gassert's rights from the 1962 AFL draft, they were awarded Ron's playing rights.  Ron decided not to travel to Buffalo, choosing to remain in banking.

Ron's football days were not over yet.  In 1966 he played for the Philadelphia Bulldogs of the Continental Football League.  The Bulldogs won the league's championship.  However, they were not a financial success and had to fold.  The next season, Ron signed with the Wilmington Clippers.  After just one season, though, that team also had to fold.

From 1969 to 1971 Ron played for the Pottstown Firebirds of the United Football League.  Ron played on both sides of the line in Pottstown and continued working in banking.  After the 1971 season, Ron retired from football.

Sadly in late 2022 Ron passed. Ron lived in Burlington County with his lovely wife Sandi where they raised a family of three children and five grandchildren. Ron was always supportive of Burlington County athletics and coached teams for the Lenape/Medford Youth Athletic Association. He will be missed by all.
