Greg Buttle, born June 20, 1954 in Atlantic City, NJ, is the Pro Day 2019 Honoree.

Greg grew up in Linwood, New Jersey where he attended Mainland Regional High School. There he excelled in the classroom, on stage and as a 4-sport letterman—football, basketball, baseball and track and field. In addition, Greg was a champion oarsman with Margate City Beach Patrol.

His athleticism and size (6'3", 235 lbs) brought this linebacker to the attention of Penn State where he would play all four years in the blue and white. Considered by Penn State coach Joe Paterno "as fine a linebacker as any prospect produced by this school," Buttle was named a captain of the team his senior year.

While at PSU, Buttle earned and still holds some school records:

  • Most Tackles in a Single Game (24)
  • Most Tackles in a Single Season (165)
  • Most Career Tackles (281) - held until 2006

In 1976, Greg was selected in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft by the New York Jets.

New York JetsDuring his 9-year tenure as #51 for the NY Jets, Buttle started 107 regular season games and four playoff games. In 1982, his team just missed out on going to the Super Bowl due to a loss to the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Championship Game.

Greg's NFL stats and achievements include...

  • Sacks: 8.5
  • Interceptions: 15
  • Touchdowns: 1
  • NFL All Rookie Team
  • NFL All-Pro Linebacker
  • Miller Lite NFL Man of the Year
  • NY Jets All-Time Football Team

Since retiring as a NFL player Greg has been busy on-air as an analyst for WCBS-TV in New York City, for Jets preseason games, and he has hosted Jets Gameday on the Jets Radio Network and ESPN New York. He also serves as an analyst on the SNY studio show Jets Nation and for a time was a fill-in host on WABC radio in NYC.

In 2000, Buttle was honored with the Butkus Silver Anniversary Award which honors the top college linebacker from 25 years ago. He has been named a Penn State All-Time NFL Player and in 2005 was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the Ocean Rowing Hall of Fame.

Buttle has received numerous honors and awards in recognition of his commitment to the community including National Spokesman for the United Way.

Greg resides in Northport, New York with his wife, Rita, son Greg Jr. and two daughters, Christina and Allegra. We salute Greg for his continued involvement on and off the field and are proud to have him as the Mt. Holly Pro Day 2019 Honoree.
