Microsoft Professional Program for Data Science and Data Science classes are available at ONLC!
Data Science is an interdisciplinary field about scientific methods, processes, and systems to gain insights from data and solve meaningful business problems. It is one of today’s hottest fields. Companies worldwide are looking for those with Data Science skills.
Each course in the Microsoft Professional Program (MPP) for Data Science is a massive open online course (MOOC) on edX which will help you develop the analytical and programming skills. Once you've completed the MPP for Data Science on edX, you can gain even more hands-on experience and knowledge with targeted Data Science classes at ONLC.
Attend hands-on, instructor-led training classes at ONLC's more than 300 locations. Not near one of our locations? Attend these same live classes from the convenience of your home/office PC via our Remote Classroom Instruction (RCI) technology.
When multiple course options are listed for a skill, only one must be completed to satisfy the requirements for MPP.

The Microsoft Professional Program (MPP) in Data Science will develop the analytical and programming skills a person needs to get into the field of data science.
Courses for MPP are currently only provided via edX.org. Each course is a massive open online course (MOOC). You watch the course videos on your own schedule, do hands-on labs to practice with the tools used by data scientists then do assessments to ensure you've mastered the new skills.
Technologies used include T-SQL, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Python, R, Azure, Machine Learning and HDInsight.
At a minimum, students should have the below before starting the MPP Data Science track:
Ideally, students should also have:
Note: Existing skills in R or Python will be extremely helpful, but the program will teach the basics required to complete the coursework.
edX courses can be taken during any course run and in any order with the exception of the capstone project which needs to be last. When multiple course options are listed for a skill in the above class list, only one (1) must be completed to satisfy the requirement.
Each edX course runs for three months and starts at the beginning of a quarter (January—March / April—June / July—September / October—December).
The capstone course runs for four weeks at the beginning of each quarter: January, April, July, October. In this course, you'll showcase the knowledge and skills you've acquired from the courses in the Microsoft Professional Program for Data Science track. The project is to solve a real-world data science problem. It takes the form of a challenge in which you will explore a dataset and develop a machine learning solution that is tested and scored to determine your grade.
For exact dates for the current course run, please refer to the course detail page on edX.org.
edX courses are developed with the intention that someone spending 6-8 hours/week should be able to complete each course in 5-6 weeks. This is just an estimate. Individuals who are already familiar with topics and those who can dedicate more time per week may finish faster whereas others may need additional time to master the skills in the course.
To receive credit in the Microsoft Professional Program, you must purchase Verified Certificates from edX.org as proof of your successful completion. The cost for Verified Certificates can vary by course. Prices are published in the course information on the edX.org site.
Microsoft will award a digitally-sharable credential to students who successfully pass and obtain Verified Certificates for each course, including the final capstone project.
Technology is creating careers that have never existed before, such as Data Science. The Microsoft Professional Program (MPP) is about helping to close a skills gap by teaching conceptual skills alongside technical ones on a variety of technologies. Microsoft Certifications such as MCSA and MCSE tend to be more about validating technical skills for people using specific Microsoft technology.
The Microsoft Professional Program is complementary to the Microsoft Certification Program and today's job market has a need for both.
