Industry Cancellation Problem

1. Why Training Classes Cancel
Companies that want to enroll students in technical training may have difficulty finding classes that actually run when and where they want them. This is because of frequent class cancellations caused by low enrollments.

Client Requirements
Aside from the standard issues of quality and pricing, companies that need training have several other requirements. Specifically, they look at:

  • Content. Does the training company offer the specific course we need for our project?

  • Timing. Are the classes being held before our project begins?

  • Proximity. Is the training delivered at a location nearby so that costs related to travel are minimized?

Can Lead to Cancellations
When a training company attempts to meet client requirements by offering many courses in several locations, it can actually lead to class cancellations.

This is because enrollments are spread across many classes and sites. As a result, no single location or event has enough students to make it profitable for the training company to run the class.

These cancellations negatively impact the purchasers of training, leaving them with no good options.

2. No Good Options

When a class cancelled prior to RCI, students and other purchasers of training were left with no good options.

Reschedule.
Wait for the next offering of the class even though it may delay the start of your project.

Travel.
The class you need might be offered far from home - you have to incur the time, inconvenience and expense to get there.

Proceed without Training.
Start your project without attending training and do the best you can.

3. RCI Offers Better Choices

The RCI solution offers two new options for students in low enrollment classes.

Better Options

  • Drive to Our Nearby Site. Because all sites offer the same schedule, you may be able to drive to a nearby location from which the instructor is presenting.

  • Participate Remotely. Go to the originally scheduled site on the original date of the class and participate with the instructor via remote conferencing.

How RCI Works
We synchronize our schedule of classes across multiple locations. Students enroll and instructors are assigned to locations with the highest enrollments. Sites with lower enrollments are then connected to the instructor site via Internet conferencing. Here are the major steps in our RCI process:

  • Schedule Events. First we synchronize a calendar of events at our nearly 100 training delivery locations in the USA.

  • Take Registrations. Then we promote classes and take registrations for all of the locations.

  • Assign Instructors. A few weeks before an event, sites that have the largest enrollments are assigned instructors. We can never tell where the instructor will be until we see the registration patterns. Sometimes we will need 3 or 4 instructors across all of our locations for a single class.

  • Offer RCI. At sites with low enrollments, students are offered the option of commuting to an instructor site or taking the course at their original classroom location—but without the instructor physically present.

  • Connect Classrooms. Using Internet and telephony conferencing products, we link the instructor's classroom with one or more remote classrooms.

  • Run Classes! Enrollments are combined from classrooms in different cities. As a result, the minimum class size is met and the classes are not cancelled.
