A Savings Program for Companies with Displaced Workers
November 2008—ONLC Training Centers announced a special discount training program for companies with displaced IT workers. Through this program, ONLC will offer additional price incentives to employers that provide a link to ONLC's IT Edge education portal. Displaced workers with education benefits and existing employees alike can use the site to register for technical classes.
“Our IT Edge program solves two challenges that HR Departments and IT Department Managers face,” according to Andy Williamson, ONLC Training Centers’ CEO. "It allows them to maximize the education benefit program for displaced workers, and at the same time save on training for existing workers," he continued.
A leading provider of global business news and information services has recently used the IT Edge program. They especially like the fact that ONLC Training Centers was able to develop a portal customized to the needs of their staff. That company recently announced that its cost reduction efforts were not enough and as a result had to move to cut an undisclosed number of jobs from multiple departments. The company was also creating “shared services” among its units, meaning that there will be more work for the people who remain.
The IT Edge program has helped that business in two ways—it allowed them to provide additional training benefits to the employees who were leaving; and secondly it allowed them to stretch their training budget for their remaining employees. That has helped them with their goal to increase employee efficiency through advanced level training so that employees will be better equipped to handle the additional work load.
“In the past, individuals would seek out advanced IT education to gain higher earnings. Now companies want to offer that training to give their IT workers a competitive edge and to help displaced workers find new jobs. Our IT Edge portal helps companies provide this training at a reduced cost,” according to Williamson.
Classes are available for developers, programmers, business analysts, helpdesk support technicians, system administrators, and operations managers. In addition to product-specific IT classes, the company also offers advanced courses in business analysis, project management, and ITIL. Individuals can also brush up on their Microsoft Office skills by taking courses on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
