Virtual Training in a Classroom?
A Tour of ONLC’s Remote Classrooms
At ONLC Training Centers we believe that the classroom is the centerpiece of a great learning experience.
However, our classrooms today are different from how we designed back in 1983 when we started delivering training. Those traditional classrooms were typical IT training rooms that seat 12 to 16 people. However, as the market for computer training declined in the decade from 2000 to 2010, we’ve had to re-think the classroom.

While other training companies have discarded the classroom altogether by offering “pure virtual” events (see Delivery Modality Comparisons) that participants take from their home or office, ONLC adopted a different strategy—one that recognizes the importance of the classroom. We opened over 200 training locations across the country, outfitting each facility has small classrooms that seat 1 to 4 participants. Those classrooms use special Remote Classroom Instruction technology to connect to an instructor in another location.
In reviewing the video on this page, you’ll notice that each participant has individual use of a computer that is connected to the instructor’s classroom. Students use this computer for labs and exercises. The instructor can see the student’s work at all times and can even take over that workstation to demonstrate concepts, if need be.
In addition, there is an instructor workstation. (This is the computer that is between the two student chairs in most of the locations.) From this computer, the students can follow along with instructor demonstrations as well as see the instructors (when their cameras are on) as well as watch white-board work in real time. Having an instructor computer for “viewing” and a student computer for “doing” is one of the advantages we build into our remote classrooms.
The computers, as well as all of the technology you need to participate remotely, is ready so that you can get right down to the business of learning. In addition, our classrooms get you away from the distractions and interruptions that you would have if you tried to take a course from your home or office.
It may sound like an oxymoron at first, but taking “virtual training in a classroom” makes a lot of sense. Our clients appreciate the fact that we are bringing back the classroom to the training experience.
